about copyright

Hi All,

I got this email this morning:

“Hi, i was searching for some ambient music for an animation im making, i only nedded a few seconds, and it needed to sound just like an mp3 i found at your site! thank you very much, really, i hope you dont mind… thanks again and grettings from Costa Rica!”

One thing got me thinking here and I’d like to share this with you.

The music we publish is copyright protected and it is the artist who holds that copyright. Some artists release their copyright and allow everyone to use their music freely, some (like myself) would like to be asked for permission as we do not release our music copyright free.

In relation to that email, I do not know which of Silence’s Artists music has been used, which track, nothing. I requested that information from the sender of the email, but one thing I’d like to mention:

As far as Silence is concerned, we do not allow our releases to be used in other people’s projects. If you want to use any of our releases or a piece from it in your work, contact ourselves or the artist and obtain a permission.

A mention of the artist whose work you used in your piece description would also be nice.

new releases out now!

Dear All, as announced few times new releases are out now.

Two of them are my archive materials, so I’ll get back to them later, but one release I’d really like to recommend. A Silence’s first ever double e.p. by Australian project CONSUMER. It is my personal favorite release of this year. Two wonderful e.p.’s “Bay” and “When the Tide Goes Out” filled with some amazing dark ambient/horror soundtrack music.

The other two releases are my archive materials from 2005 and 2006. There’s more about them in liner notes accompanying those releases.

Enjoy!

Three new releases out tonight!

Just a quick reminder Guys, that Silence’s 3 new releases will be out tonight.

So, it’s only a matter of hours now.

Forthcoming releases

We have 3 new releases coming out in two weeks time, so i thought I’d drop a line here to announce them.

First one is a double-e.p. by a new discovery of mine, Alex Dinsdale aka Consumer with two materials “Bay” and “When the Tide Goes Out”. Alex’s music is one of my personal favourites of the past few weeks and I simply can’t stop listening to it.

I guess the easiest way to describe this music is a word soundtrack. Both materials sound like soundtracks to horror movies, full of tension and intriguing the imagination. As said, my absolute favorite of the past weeks.

The other two releases will contain my music. Since my new record will not be out before September i decided to publish some materials from my archives under a collctive title “Personal Archives”, and I am beginning with:

“Personal Archives vol. 1: COIR” and “Personal Archives vol.2:Study for a horror movie”

Please note that both of those releases contain, as titles suggest, an archive material and do not represent the musical direction I am taking on my new record.

All 3 releases will be out on the 21st of June.

New Release - Durán Vázquez

After a huge delay (my fault!) and finally, Silence released a new e.p. by Spanish Durán Vázquez, a man whom I consider the master of field recordings of today.

His latest e.p., composed mainly around sound material recorded during night ventures through the streets of Vigo where Durán lives, brings three minimalistic pieces in which you simply dive in leaving the reason on a shore.

A music for your imagination.

To me, a masterpiece.

Forthcoming release - Duran Vazquez

Silence’s forthcoming e.p. is a wonderful, 3 piece material from a man whom I consider a field recordings master of today, Duran Vazquez entitled “Vagus, Noctivagus”.

This material will be available in one months time.

Roy-Arne Knutsen’s Fjords E.P. is out!

Ugh, I am a bit slow posting this, but still.

Silence’s latest release is Roy Arne Knutsen’s E.P. “Fjords”.

It’s a wonderfu, 2 piece journey into dark ambient realms, totally recommended.

You can download it from the releases page.

Enjoy!
